The FUTURE of
DIABETES CARE
Complete diabetes care is multi-dimensional. It includes physical fitness, proper nutrition, blood sugar mitigation, stress management, mental health, and energy levels.
To optimize diabetes health, we must empower the individual by inspiring autonomy in self-care. When a person knows how to make themselves feel better, with a clear mind, they will respond to diabetes' demands more appropriately from a place of LOVE instead of FEAR or AVERSION. Yoga therapy is applied to the person living with diabetes, not just the disease. Every single person is unique. Their needs, goals, type of diabetes and duration of diabetes are all distinct. |
The Facts
Diabetes is much more common than you may realize:
|
It costs A LOT! - The annual cost of Diabetes in the United States - including the cost of diagnosis, loss of productivity, and direct medical costs-was upwards of 650 BILLION dollars a year!
Although diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States, the leading cause of death in people with diabetes is heart disease. People with diabetes are 50% more likely to develop anxiety and depressive disorders. |
Despite medical advances only 50% of people with diabetes are able to achieve the ADA's recommendation of an A1c under 7.0%. |
The metric which largely determines the risk of developing co-morbidities. Although A1c is not the only measurement to assess how well a person is thriving with diabetes, it is useful.
This statistic has baffled doctors and psychologists for decades. Bottom line, diabetes is a SELF-CARE disease, which means that when a person leaves the doctor's office, it is up to them to do the work. Whether it is a child or adolescent without maturity or an adult with a lifetime of learned behavior patterns, the responsibility falls in the person's hands with diabetes. |

In her course, Evan artfully presents potent practices with situational awareness that comes from self-study and personal experience with type 1 diabetes. I am more thoughtful in my daily actions and consequently, spend more time in my optimal blood glucose range after taking Evan’s course and living my yoga.

"I've had type 1 diabetes for almost 35 years and had the privilege of studying with Evan as part of the Rise Above Diabetes program. I learned that I am not a diabetic, but a person who has diabetes. Yoga and breath center and calm me, which helps manage my numbers.

"As a newly diagnosed adult Type 1 diabetic, I have entered an entirely new world of health management. I’m a science and data driven person, and while carb counting is easy for me, I could not get my arms around how to manage to less measurable aspects of my health, such as stress. Evan taught me how to manage stress through breathing and Yoga, enabling me to get a grasp on the less tangible aspects of diabetes. I will be forever grateful to Evan for her wisdom and help."
